The Ace and Jack of the Low Company of (Scurrilous) Gamesters and Gamblers invite you to join them virtually on the evening of Sunday the 6th of February from 7:30 to 10:30. Here they will try to part you from your ducats, groats, pennies, denari, sous, livre, thalers, scudi, guilders, shillings, or what ever coin you have lying around.

Symon will teach you to play to games in the hocs or stops family of games. First will be Queen Nazareen, as described by Charles Cotton in his compendium, “The Compleat Gamester”. A light and easy diversion which precedes games known to current age travelers such as Newmarket or Michigan, it will serve to introduce you to the concepts of stops games, and part you from a few virtual coins along the way.

Then he’ll teach Poch, also known as Pochspiel by those north of the Danube. Poch is a game with three phases – one a lottery, one which would eventually evolve into Poker (note the linguistic connection), and one which is a stops phase reminiscent of Cribbage.

We will gather virtually using the Kingdom’s Google Meet (watch the Baronial mailing list for the link or ask Symon for it), and then leverage playingcards.io as our virtual game table. All are welcome regardless of experience. Virtual chips will serve to represent whichever coinage you feel like.
