Great Council Minutes 6 December AS LV (2021) 7:30 PM

Coronets Nobildonna Fiore Leonetta Bardi and Lord Frithuric Ulman:

Their excellencies would like to divest a pair of coronets that are unused and have a bad history. They would like to donate them to a school theatre group. They have been reviewed by a jeweler, and they have no scrap value. Divestment approved.

Updated Policy is on the Carolingia website, thank you to Eadgyth and Symon for their work on that.

Thank you for continuing to do things on-line, and in person, in these trying circumstances. Thanks to their excellencies and their excellencies Stonemarche for loaning us their territory.

Web Minister Magister Symon of Barnesdale

The baronial mailing list has a current setting of “replies go to the list”. Should this be changed so that it defaults to “poster”, and a deliberate change would be required to send it to the list.

Justin: The mailing list is still the official conversation source for those not on facebook, so it should stay as conversations.

Reidan Back in history the default was not to the mailing list, and it caused confusion. And the volume of discussion is not so hight as to cause problems.

Ysabel: The default for most current mailing lists is reply to the sender, reply all to the list.

Frithuric: I agree with Ysabel’s reasoning. Additionally, the risk from accidentally replying all is significantly higher than the risk of an accidental reply to the sender.

Katla: I also prefers “reply to the sender”, because in many cases the original messages are things that don’t need a general reply.

Peter, Arylna, Etain Concur.

The majority preferes “reply to sender”, the change will be made.

Chronicler Lady Aaradyn for Baron Kendrick del Grenewode:

Kendrick will be stepping down as chronicler after the December issue. Please Email Lady Aaradyn and Kendrick if you are interested.

The Cambridge War Memorial is available again, so practice will resume in January.

Marshal Archery Master Peter the Red

Archery practice continues to take place in Carslisle. You can also work on equipment repair outside, there is a patio heater available.

Please think about doing combat archery, including working on armor. We will have a combat archery target at Carlisle practice.

Tasha Medvedeva

His highness Ryou wants to stand up a proper combat archery and siege commands this year. Tasha was a lot of ammunition available, but it needs to be reviewed and repaired. There will be a work day in the spring to work on this. Duke Edward is willing to help people with armor. The cost of armor is expected to be ~$500? with the required elements making up the most of it. Peter can help make Visby armor as well.

Marshal Thrown Weapons Lady Dierdre Greenwode

Thrown weapons ranges have closed for the season. Things will resume in the spring, but we have lost several marshals and need to rethink practices.

Events:

Otter’s Welcome Lady Astrid Eiriksdottir

Katla will handle pre-reg and gate. Finance committee has the updated fee structure recommendations.

Many roles have been filled. The Ottercrat would like to hand out and flyer for the event. A QR code would be useful. Promoting through social media is also desired. Spread it through other Baronies as well.

Justin: ROI on flyering is not as good as one might hope, but it is worth doing.

Lady Deirdre Grenewode: Ambassador sashes had been planned. Materials were purchased, but it stopped there. If we want to proceed with it, sewing help will be needed. The plan is to make non-event specific sashes. Astrid wants many people on hand to help guide newcomers. Astrid, Deirdre, and Patience will work together on this. Her excellency would like to tie in the youth ambassadors as well. Patience will coordinate with Theo. Please take safety into account.

Carolingia 50 Year  Lady Patience Faircloth

No updates at this time.

Falling Leaves: Lady Katla of Vyborg

Looking at the site for falling leaves, with planning for in person. A minimum of 12-1500 dollars. A multi-day event is possible, but camping is unlikely due to fire restrictions. Sept 10, 2022 or 17th presently planned, but the site is still working on their calendar.

Carolingia Winter Gathering Master Ivan Matfeevich Rezansky

There has traditionally been a 12th night event in early January. Peter and Arlyanna are unable to host, so _ has stepped up to coordinate an event on the 23rd. A small potluck gathering with gift exchange and (brief) court. This would be a smaller local event. 75 people maximum. The site wants $50/hour, assume 6 hours for the event. Plus a $200 refundable security deposit. The suggestion is $5 gate fee. Also insurance certificate, and $50 for incidentals. Not sure how much liability is required. This will likely be a dry event to meet site requirements. The event is approved pending financial committee tonight.

The East goes East (Proposed) Patience and Sugawara: The prince has a Japanese Persona, and both Patience and Sugawara like Japan. They are proposing a 1-2 day online schola event “The East goes East”, focussing on Japan, China, and India. The plans are for an online only kingdom+ wide event, hoping to use the kingdom Zoom with breakout rooms for the class schedule. Originally proposed for February 5th to coordinate with the lunar new year. But it may conflict with the University of Atlantia. Patience and Sugiwara will discuss this scheduling. The council votes to approve moving forward with planning.

Journeyman’s Schola (Proposed) Lady Dierdre Greenwode

Considering a journeyman’s schola, but is looking for a co-autocrat. This is still in the early pre-planning stages.

SCA Announcements:

Justin du Couer: Next Tuesday, the 14th, Justin is restarting the autocrat’s roundtable. This is a discussion of how to autocrat. It will be tightly moderated, as it is intended to aid newer autocrats rather than a detailed discussion for experienced autocrats.

Her excellency is teaching a class “Voice and the Herald” tomorrow. It will cover court and field voice heraldry.

There will be a museum outing to the Museum of Russian Icons. Dec 19th, meet at the museum at 1pm.

Justin du Coeur: Arisia convention is coming up, MLK weekend. Planned to be in person. Vax and Mask. Current plan is that there will be a rennaisance ball run by Justin and music by the Waytes. Please stop by (con membership required).

Arylana: Congrats to Master Ivan for his Maunche.

Fortunata for Gundormr: Reading manuscripts rountable. Last meeting this Sunday. Continuing with new Roman Cursive.
