Coronets Nobildonna Fiore Leonetta Bardi and Lord Frithuric Ulman:
Welcome to December. We don’t have a lot going on in Carolingia, but there are Yule’s coming up the next two weekends. We can’t make those, but we will be at Birka, and hopefully Winter Nights will happen and we will see you there.
I’m calling on Carolingians to organize events. I’d love to see both new people, and people who have been taking a break from Autocrating for a while step up. We still need people for Otter’s Welcome and Falling Leaves.
Officers:
Seneschal Lady Aaradyn Gyoot
A reminder, the financial committee needs to approve your budget, as well as Great Council. This will be easiest if you can get the budget to the Seneschal 2-3 weeks before the relevant Great Council.
Their majesties have annoucned Curia, which will be spread over two nights, compeltely etherial. The seneschal and the baronage both represent the populace.

Foresters Meestres Arlyana van Wyck
On November 10 we held a Haunted Gathering of the Foresters in Westford, with over 20 attendees, a woods walk, fiber dying, and more! We have 3 more forester gatherings scheduled: December 14 in Pepperell, January 19 in Carlisle, and February 15 in Leicester. All are welcome, whether you’re a forester or not. Find details of these events on the Baronial calendar.
? Monthly Melee practice on Thursday.
Events:
Barony vs Backlog Sugawara: We had the event. Overall feeling was that people enjoyed themselves. 51 attendees, 48 adults, 4 childrenm, 41 members. 10 non members. 9 adults, 1 child. Total donations 576, average donation ~11 median donation ~7 Generous donations of food and time. Estimate 1300 dollars. Actual expense $795. We were out by 6:30, we are welcome back anytime. 6 classes, well attended. Two lost and found items, both returned to their owners. One lost item not found.
Baronial storage items were returned on the 12th. We got the deposit check back, and it will be voided.
Winter Nights Proposal Collwen Glynmes: Sorry for delays in getting this out. The planned event site fell through, so we are back at Veazy. Feb 22nd. No conflict nearby, there is a Royal progress in Canada. The site fee is $650. The budget will be the same as last year, with a slight increase in dayboard fees, in order to not constrain a cook (still to be found). One number in expenses is out of date.
There is an anticipated $40 margin. Expected income 1260, expenses 1220, with no donations considered. Event fee is $13, NMS is $10.
Eadgyth: The increase in NMS affects the number of people who attend. What is the plan to increase the attendance so the event will not lose money for the third time?
Collwen: In addition to the competition as last year, we have spoken to the EK performers about a youth competition. We are looking into adding an A&S display, and we are talking to the foresters about brining in some of that activity.
I will have the event announcement into the website before the end of the week.
I will have notifications out to the local groups in the same time range, and will have business cards at Arisia.
Arlyana: Do you need insurance? $75
Aradyn: Yes.
Frithuric: Ice Weasel has been added to the calendar on that date.
Collwen: Shoot.
Collwen: March 2nd (a Sunday) is available. I can check if there’s anything later in March or earlier in April.
Aaradyn: The 2nd is the Sunday after Crown’s A&S.
The seneschal can put holds on the planning calendar which helps prevent date overlaps.
Etain: What did you budget for facebook promotion?
Collwen: I meant sharing on SCA groups and so forth, not an ad buy.
Valerian: The advantage to going into later in March or April, we could add outdoor activities (fighting).
Arylana: I want to talk to you offline about having the college of performers donate money, since they can’t pay the NMS.
Frithuric: If we’re running into late March or April, we start to run into other events. We could possibly pivot this event into Otter’s welcome.
We could also talk to Smoking Rocks about holding the Winter Nights competition at Ice Weasel?
Aaradyn: Mike, correct about how FB events need to be promoted. Please send an e-mail to the barony as a reminder.
Eadgyth: The first two weekends in April may not be scheduled until Coronation is on the calendar.
Frithuric: To bad we don’t have a coronation site, or we could bid on that.
Various: Discussions on the last time Carolingia hosted Coronation, and finding a possible site for future Coronations in the area.
Aardyn: Right now, the last two weeks of March are available. Do not schedule against Black Rose Ball.
Donato: Can council vote remotely, by e-mail, in order to let things move forward.
Aardyn: I’ll put it to a vote whether we can do that?
Council approves remote approval.
Aaradyn: Okay. Collwen please copy me on the date communications, and I’ll send out a poll when things are settled.
John: Do you need to be introduced to the Baronage of Smoking Rocks?
Collwen: I would appreciate it as a fallback.
Aaradyn: Eadgyth, yes, the budget will go to the financial committee for parallel approval.
General announcements:
Justin: As previously mentioned, Arisia is coming up MLK weekend. It’s moving back to the Cambridge Hyatt (The ziggurat). Sunday, 4-6, the Rennaisance Ball is happening. Come and join us.
Aaradyn: I rely on my officers to know when their positions change over.
Chatelaine is looking to change over.
Ysabel is still looking for a new captain of the Waytes.
And we are still looking for a new Exchequer, since her term ends in February. You are not required to be a CPA, but some financial experience is useful.
Aaradyn: Thanks to everyone who helped me through my term as sensechal, and welcome to Sugawara who will take over starting at January Council.
