Greetings to all gamesters, gamblers, and all others interested in pursuing pastimes,
Once again the Low Company calls to all with an interest in cards, dice, boards, and all other paraphernalia used to entertain oneself and ones fellows, to make a bit of sport, or to study the ways in which one may part others from their hard earned markers.
Join us on Friday the 10th of May, at the establishment of Deirdre and Symon in Framingham, MA to gather with like minded folks. Regulars will know that we frequently start with a meal around 6:30 for those interested (please inform the hosts), and move on to the main course of exploring the games of the past around 7:30.
Those with a sharp awareness of regional happenings will know that this is the evening before the Barony Beyond the Mountain celebrates the investiture of their new Baronial coronets. In honor of this, we will focus our attentions on the work published by Salamallah the Corpulent, the former landed baron of BBM who led for many many years, and was one of the luminaries in the SCA of our shared pursuits. We will look over his compiled work “Medieval Games”, a compendium of game rules and illustrations that could be the sole work one needs to enjoy many decades of period games. First published in 1976, subsequent editions (1982, 1995) expanded and revised the work and the third edition includes many non-western games. Well worth picking up if you can find a copy.
